A Fallen Brother

Brethren,

As Chaplain of Scottsburgh Lodge #572, it is with deep and profound sadness, my duty to report that Brother and Sgt. Robert Joe Montgomery was killed-in-action on Tuesday, May 22, 2007, while serving his country in Iraq. Army sources informed the family that Bro. Montgomery was searching for underground munitions at night when he tripped a wire sticking up from the ground and was killed instantly.

Joe was raised to the Sublime Degree of a Master Mason on June 29, 2001 and served as Junior Steward in 2004.

No funeral arrangements have been made and at this time, there is no information yet available regarding a Masonic Memorial Service. Joe's brother, Bro. Micah Montgomery, who served as Junior Warden of Scottsburg Lodge prior to his deployment was also stationed in Iraq. He is in transit back to the U.S. and is escorting his brother's body back to Scottsburg, Indiana. Bro. Joe was also the nephew of Bro. Bill Graham, Mayor of Scottsburg.

Joe is survived by his wife and three children.

The family has informed us that they expect Joe's body to arrive on Monday or Tuesday of next week. Funeral arrangements and information regarding a Masonic Memorial Service will be posted as soon as they are made known.
